How much of that would be to do with a) that he's (as far as I can tell) doing it for good reasons, what with the whole preventing the death of the universe through entropy thing, and b) because he looks slightly more annoying than frigging Calumon?

Yeah, I'm willing to bet the latter's the reason for it.
