That happens here, too, as was dramatically illustrated a while back when a user who, for reasons which will become obvious in a moment, will remain nameless (see what I did there) decided to go through and remove his Real Name™ from all his old posts. So thanks for not doing that. :)

The "you have a new message from $USER" notification is cookie-based, and even before the recent widespread cookie issue (which had to do with a particularly ill-advised bit of "hard expiration date" coding deep in the guts of the antique DCForum install we use) it occasionally behaved strangely. For instance, whenever I get a PM I get that notification on every computer I use until I go and look at it, because the cookie isn't shared across every platform I'm logging in from (in case that happens to any of you and you're wondering why it happens). So who knows... it was probably delivered normally and you just weren't notified until we kicked the cookie system the other day.
