Actually, looking at some various pictures of old call boxes that weren't time machines, the real things did open outwards. Either she fumbled a little the first time she copied one, or just rolled with it to avoid the Doctor trying to open it in a rush and colliding with it. Which, given how often he has to take those doors at high speed while fleeing something rather angry with him, is just one of the many Quality of Life features of the Type 40 TARDIS :) (Obviously, the real life reason was to avoid troublesome camera angles into the non-existent interior, but details details.)

As opposed to the Simms Master, who would probably mess around in other, much more interesting ways. (And the Clarkson Dominus, who would probably try and powerslide his.)
