Fair enough. I'll concede the point that it wasn't 'contrived' per se.

I still think it was bad. If you're gonna kill your cast, fine. (And there are ways to kill your cast that suck.) But if you successfully mine their deaths for pathos, as My-Hime did, using a giant reset button at the end is almost certainly going to be awful.

Basically, I disapprove on an aesthetic level of trying to have your cake and eating it to. If you want to write a tragedy, commit to writing a tragedy. Don't have King Lear suddenly rise from his deathbed and declare that every day henceforth is Cordelia Is Awesome Day and oh yeah, it turns out Gloucester is alive after all.
