Sort of! Well spotted. They don't work for III, but several members of this Freelance Vampire Hunter team are veterans of III Team 37, which was dissolved after the infamous Allard's Incident the previous Halloween. (The man with the sun lamp, for instance, is Jack Bentley, who was last seen applying a photonic stunner to Raven and then living to regret it in the Halloween Special. He still has no luck with light-emitting equipment.) Having experienced that disastrous raid, they decided to part ways with III and go into a branch of paranormal investigation involving less chance of encountering actual demons.

(This is why they're so startled and dismayed when Baron Zoria introduces Marceline by her full name and title. They thought they were after a vampire, not the Vampire Queen, who is known by any reasonably informed occultist to be half-fiend. Admittedly, they did get awfully close, thanks to a combination of blind luck on their part and carelessness on hers, but all things being equal, she's way out of their league. It's a bit like being hired to be the blowtorch man on a bank vault robbery and only discovering when you get there that the bank in question is the New York Federal Reserve. :)
