...Thanks for the detailed explanation. I found some of it online but I still wasn't clear on why Moko and Kaguya had this murderous feud going on.

Oh man, that's just asking for a trickster figure to show up, steal the objects, and then present them back to her with elaborate ceremony. It'd be entirely in character for a Japanese fox spirit.
