(Edited to add: I really should pay better attention to what thread I'm in when posting after reading two pieces back-to-back. This post was aimed at Part #3. Sorry about that!)As others have stated, this piece really helped envision just how huge the sphere is. That's a good thing. Since I've been told point-blank in the past "you're thinking about this too much" when discussing Dyson Sphere mechanics, I'll leave it at "Great work, thanks!" and move on. :)
ASIDE from the sphere... what I really liked about this piece was the fold effect descriptions. Spacefolding (in UF and otherwhere) has always seemed to me to be a quick little *poof*, with a flash of light you're THERE not HERE! Haha! I mean, it's cool and all, but as Utena pointed out, that's not too exciting.
THIS... this is exciting. As I was reading, my background thoughts were along the lines of "wait, the fold affects nearby objects? Well, duh, of COURSE it would, why didn't *I* think of that?!?" Your handling of the sudden presence of a new gravity well was great... okay, maybe I'm obsessing over the geeky bits, but MAN, I'm geeking out over this! :)
The reactions of the characters, all of it... it was intense. I have a big cheezy grin on my face now from reading it. My coworkers are gonna ask questions. Heh.
