Not that a Surakite >would ever put it in those terms, but that's what it amounts to. :) I would very much expect that the drug mostly exists as a 'failsafe', in case the plak-tow can't be broken by the usual means, perhaps because of the death of the intended mate before the ceremony, but after the fever has hit.
