100,000,000,000,000 Monkeys Can't All Be Wrong

The validity of this tagline is disputed. Please consider editing the page tagline to conform to Galactipedia's style guidelines.

The sensicality of this tagline is disputed. Many sapient lifeforms are not related to small simians, and such creatures do not exist on all inhabited worlds. Consider changing the term "monkeys" to a more generally applicable term, such as "protosapients", or discuss the matter on this entry's discussion page.

Contacts with Earth, Pre-Official
(Redirected from pre-1999 earth contacts)

The planet Earth's official First Contact with an extraterrestrial civilization occurred on October 31, 1999 SC, when the government of the Empire of Salusia opened diplomatic relations with the United Nations (as close as Earth got to having a world government at the time), and, through those relations, introduced Earth's people to the wider galactic community.

The rest, as they say, is history, but what is less well-known is that Earth had experienced many alien contacts before that time. Most were unknown to the general public, usually because they were covered up by government agencies, were not believed to have involved extraterrestrials, or were encounters by private citizens who never reported them to authorities thereafter.

List of known pre-official Earth contacts

This section does not cite any references. You can help Galactipedia by adding citations according to the style guide.

ca. -3,998,000 SC: The Autobot starship Ark and Decepticon battleship Nemesis crash on primordial Earth. Their crews are rendered inoperative and spend the next four million Standard years in stasis lock.

July 8, 1947: The crew of a Reticulan survey ship investigating evidence of atomic weapons development in the American Southwest gets a little jumpy and shoots down a Project MOGUL missile-detection balloon over New Mexico. The results are still considered hilarious on Reticula Prime to this day(citation needed).

July 14, 1966: A giant alien lifeform dubbed "Ultraman" by the Japanese press appears in rural Japan, fighting against another alien dubbed "Space Monster Bemular"(citation needed). Various Ultra-beings and space monsters appear intermittently on Earth for the next 14 years before mysteriously ceasing to appear in 1980(citation needed).

ca. 1982: Agents of the Salusian aerospace firm Subpro Astronautics make surreptitious contact with Incom Corporation, a California technology company, seeking an alliance to secretly develop a new space fighter for use in the Salusia-Zardon War. The eventual result is the Z-95 Headhunter series of starfighters.

August 19, 1984: An eruption of Mount St. Hilary awakens the Decepticons and Autobots in stasis lock aboard the Ark. They continue their war in clandestine fashion, not making their presence officially known until 2000, though their existence is merely unexplained, not unknown, after a major confrontation near Los Angeles, California.

June 1992: The Wedge Defense Force starship Wayward Son appears over Neo-Worcester, Massachusetts, and engages the forces of GENOM Corporation in combat. (This is arguably not an alien contact, since, though supplied by an operating from a base in another star system, the Wedge Defenders at the time were all Earthborn humans.)

Other contacts?

Modern investigators looking into unexplained events of prior eras on Earth often discover long after the fact that these events constituted a contact. There are almost certain to be others, possibly many others, unaccounted for in the historical record. For instance, many people believe that Earth was contacted - possibly even settled - by explorer/colonists from the Atlantean Star Empire during the Second Epoch, but no concrete evidence has yet surfaced to back this assumption.

So Queen Asrial's pre-"First Contact" sojourn in Quagmire is still unknown to the public?

Either that or it's the subject of a Galactipedia edit war, and this particular shapshot was taken while the "don't list that" faction had the upper hand. :)

If I remember correctly, the previous edit war was over a mythical incursion by the Gamilons in 1993. Something about a black cube and a flying truck...

"You shot down a weather balloon?!"
"'Missile-detection balloon.' And I had my reasons."
"What possible reason could you have to shoot down a balloon?!"
"We thought it could be hostile. And it scratched the paint!"

Well, there goes my sanity. We need that one on the modern Wiki.

My favorite feature is that "assholes" is a link. (It isn't really, but you know. :)

I imagine that said article is quite extensive given the quantity and variety of assholes in existence, and how people are frequently given to describing their experiences with them.

I dunno. After the hubub about racism in a videogames about killing zombies, I think the politically correct "protosapients" line was probably the best gag to me personally. :)

I love the Roswell explanation. It's almost nuts enough to be the truth.

And I'm probably being nitpicky again, but wasn't there an announcement about the second destruction of Worcester moved to 1994 or some such.

Since when has (setting) reality totally defined what a wiki-encyclopedia contains?

1992, 1994, what does it matter in 2410?
