Certainly. But he definitely is playing his stock Brian Blessed character there. For a better version, check his roles in Kenneth Branaugh's versions of various Shakespearean dramas. He ranges from spooky and strange as Hamlet's Ghost to positively reserved (for Brian Blessed, at least) in "Much Ado About Nothing." He even gets to play diametrically opposed twins in "As You Like It." Ebony the Black Dragon "Life is like an anole. Sometimes it's green. Sometimes it's brown. But it's always a small Caribbean lizard."
