I prefer to think that they're a splinter group that was briefly still violent, but rapidly found their own path to peace. They're basically a New Age religion with a policy for very aggressive proselytizing. When they say "you will be assimilated", they mean, "Joining us is inevitable because happiness is impossible without being networked. End your suffering by agreeing to join us." Which is creepy, but also quashes violence and coercion: violence damages future converts, and coercion introduces internal strife which can be avoided by simply waiting for their willingness.
