And I believe mothership as a single word (as opposed to mother ship) is something of a neologism, so it's not surprising that Word doesn't like it. Sponson, though? Probably because it's an uncommon technical/trade term, and they're not as common in vessel design as pontoons or outriggers for the same purpose.
