(And there was another Top Gear segment in which James May reviewed an XJ-S that had been similarly revamped by an engineering company - had actual working electrics fitted and so forth.)
As for the Z4, well, again, I'm more of a Jag man, I'd take an XKR over that. Very similar looks to the Aston Martin DB9, for about half the money.
