#0, (STO) 2256: A Space Oddity

Started playing Star Trek Online again for the first time in a couple-three years. I've been playing the content based on Star Trek: Discovery, and it's been an... interesting... experience, because I have never watched Star Trek: Discovery and know next to nothing about it. As such, I've run across a lot of things—NPCs, their interactions, the overplot—that are almost certainly references, but they have nowhere to land in my brain. It's like seeing a sign and knowing it's in a language, but not one you can read. :)

One thing I will say is that the Disco-era uniforms are dull, dull, dull. That Space Janitor Jumpsuit look kinda worked for Enterprise because of the period they were shooting for, but Discovery is set, what, 10 years before TOS? It feels like they ought to be sporting something that looks a little more like the uniforms from "The Cage", not "slightly more elaborate blue jumpsuits with fancy boots".

The tech looks cool, though, I'll give it that. I particularly like the communicators, which are very consciously the Motorola Brickphone to the TOS era's Razr. :)

Can't say much for the overall plot, though. I mean it's convenient for the mission writers that both the game's "present day" and the 2256 instance feature a War With The Klingons, so that they can get away with making the tutorials almost exactly the same, but... eh. DS9 did War Is Bad, Mmkay? better than either one.
