It dropped completely unannounced the other day, just BAM! have a game, internet, and

oh

my

god.

I am having entirely too much fun. It's this crazy zany love letter to action RPGs with a strong dose of Jet Set Radio Future DNA lurking in there. The voice acting is top-notch, the gameplay is fast, tight, weighty, and beautiful, and it's got enough user-friendly options that even a rhythm-game (did I mention it's kinda-sorta a rhythm game?) hopeless idjut like me can actually make stuff happen without wanting to throw my controller across the room.

So. Good.

Anyone else around here playing it? (I know at least one -- Hi MD! -- but still.)

I haven't played it myself but I've been blown away by the popularity it's been gaining entirely via word of mouth. Seems as if the same was shadowdropped into the market with absolutely no advertising or marketing at all and is absolutely popping off entirely based on people's personal experiences.

I hope it manages to really succeed, I hate it when games are just thrown out there to the wolves with no real support or safety net and it's good to see a game gaining this much traction entirely via powerful public opinion.

From bits and pieces I've seen around, I get the impression the people behind this game are supporting it plenty, they just wanted to try something other than the usual "months of hype and paid beta testing" model and see what happened.

Pretty much this. Apparently, word of mouth inside the publisher was incredibly positive from the word go, so they decided to run with that on a large scale. Plus they realized that Forspoken, a PS5 exclusive, would be coming out at the same time they planned this release, and it was going overboard on promotional material and often getting mocked for it. So a different approach already had several advantages.

Well, that's one way to say 'I'm borrowing her copy while she's at work' :P

So could Peppermint.

I like to think of it as admiring your fine taste in video games.

Or you're the video game equivalent of the poison taster. I mean, whichever floats your boat. :D

(and today's payday so I'm buying my own copy, so there!)

You've gotten farther than I have at this point, so I'm kind of curious: does she get *more* adorable? Is that even possible? Peppermint, I mean.

Korsica might or might not have a clue about the situation. Can't decide which is more entertaining.

Also, was rewatching Big Hero 6 the other night and realized who Macaron reminds me of.

She does have more adorable moments, and there's a 'oh god I'm gay for the Scottish Redhead' moment in the credits.

Me too! But I don't care 'cause even after dialing every option down to "I suck, pls hlp me play", the game still felt challenging without being punishing and just so...

so...

*Fun.*
