Upon review, I believe you were right about Act VII being the end of Notes from the Scarlet Mansion. The setting and tone change in (what was going to be) Act VIII is marked enough, and it's looking like there's material enough to follow, to justify breaking it there and making the next act the first of a third book.

So that's what I'll be doing! Sometime in the next couple-three hours, when Act I of Book 3 comes out. :)
