Interestingly (to me, anyway), there's an ep of Strike Witches in which a couple of the witches deploy from the Fusō submarine I-400 (the lead boat of the class of sub that Iona is in Arpeggio of Blue Steel). It's not clear whether the Strike Witches version of the I-400 class was actually designed as a submarine witchcraft carrier, or if they were just using the hangar intended for the Seiran float planes, as in the real world, but it worked pretty well in the role anyway. (And unlike seaplanes, Striker-equipped witches wouldn't have to be recovered by crane, amusing though the image is. :)
