Based on this, I've used the first alternate you suggested there, since that's basically what I was trying for anyway—a geographical rather than political tag.

The original intent was that Witolda wouldn't quite be able to tell whether Sanya was being affectionate, patronizing, or both, and it sounds like the second one wouldn't leave much doubt, so I stayed with the first one.
