Speculation mode: since the timing is for Central Time, I first thought Cowtown is probably somewhere in mid-west Liberion (although a quick google only turns up somewhere near Philadelphia).

Admittedly arriving without unauthorized personnel on the B-36 won't be a problem (witches being able to disembark in the air, obviously) this would still rule out a trans-atlantic crossing so the detachment may have to find their own way back to Gallia... Well. Hannelore probably knows someone who can help with that.

In this case it's a nickname for Fort Worth, Texas, where Consolidated Vultee Aircraft (the XB-36's prime contractor) is headquartered.

(Not really a spoiler; Ridley mentioned Fort Worth and Convair last ep.)

It's a good thing you clarified, because "Cowtown" is also a nickname for Calgary, Alberta. I was wondering why LeMay was ordering them to a non-Liberion city.

Having been to Calgary, I would say that that is because that fine city harbors some secret desire to be Ft. Worth. God knows why; it's a beautiful city on its own. (Not that there's anything wrong with Ft. Worth either; I've spent many an afternoon there from time to time, before my immigration to the Alleghenies.)

not speaking italian in _any_ fashion i had to break out the google translate thing myself for that part. no idea why(see previous statement) but the translations 1st part used 'he' and 'she' for the 2nd re Ombra. the scene fills out nicely the details left out when Yoshika and Shirley dropped in on Minna.

at this point it might be time to update the character profiles page to include 404, with Van Ohain added to the roster and Wittle/her crew setting up shop there as well it seems it might be time to add another scorecard. also, i know i saw a flight patch for 404 somewhere in the forums but cant find it now, can someone point me to it? i collect graphics like that and had a copy but a power flop and a weak pws took out my archive drive(and mobo >~.~< ) and sadly that was 1 i lost.

That's probably a combination of Google Translate not quite knowing what it's doing, and neither Matt (who wrote that scene) nor I knowing enough Italian to fix it. (Which is why we were using Google Translate in the first place. :)

I've considered that off and on over the last little while, what with the various personnel changes. I'm not sure whether to change them outright, or leave the existing ones as a record of the way things stood at the beginning of the series and put updated ones alongside them. (I've already done a similar thing with the barracks room assignment chart, although I've just now noticed that I've got Heidemarie and Lynne/Yoshika swapped on both versions.)

looking over these i cant help but think its getting a bit crowded there and the remaining vacant room is nicely situated for Neuroi-chan.

thanks for reposting that here, i kind of got into the habit of collecting flight patches back in the late 80s when i worked comicons and got the then-current entire collection of shuttle orbiter flight patches.

The main level is filling up, although there is at least one more like it, one floor down, if need be. Right now the lower floor is designated as the visiting officers' quarters, but the wing could take over part of all of it for permanent housing if need be.

That said, it's impossible to say because the only opinion Neuroi-chan has truly expressed is a willingness to work with and for the 501st. I await with bated breath the chance to find out just what it is she hopes to accomplish...

Yep.

You might be thinking of the Deutschland-class ships, which were described as Panzerschiffe ("armored ships") - the Germans always claimed that the closest English equivalent would be "heavy cruiser", but with their 11" main guns, they were almost as heavily armed and armored as battleships, for all that they were smaller than usual. (Eventually the sarcastic nickname "pocket battleship" came to be used in English.)

The Admiral Hipper-class heavy cruisers never had to have their tonnages lied about, because Germany had openly abandoned compliance with both Versailles and the various inter-war naval limitations treaties by the time they were constructed, but they were never described (or armed - their main guns were 8"ers) as anything other than what they were. People did mistake them for Bismarck and/or Tirpitz fairly often, because they did look very similar, but it was only a cosmetic resemblance.

But this one is commanded by a ship-girl... just realised there are a lot of questions there, most of which sort of come as a chicken/egg sort of thing. Hope to see an answer in the OWaW, OFF crossover comming along...

Pretty much my reaction, too. However, I'm consoling myself with the thought that he DOES get Hammer-ed, just not on camera, or, even better, YET.
It's just that the team can't keep 'stealing' the plane, and so the Hammering involves OTHER things.
