That's a relatively minor phenomenon by Time Lord standards, and a TARDIS ought to be able to enter it without too much trouble. As such, either something else is up, and/or the TARDIS is bullshitting the Doctor to get him to stop screwing around and leave the area before he sets something on fire. :)
