So here's my idea. This is a vintage Samsonite suitcase I have acquired.

What I'm planning to do is get a bunch of that foam that goes inside flight cases and fit it out as a range case for my Model 8. It's quite a bit larger than it strictly needs to be (because it had to be a minimum width to fit the barrel), so there should be plenty of room in there for the rifle, hearing protection, ammunition—basically everything you'd need for a day at the range. Maybe, depending on how the geometry works out, even my Model 51. I think I can even do it without permanently altering the interior of the suitcase; most of what's inside there is just fabric and should scrunch out of the way/fit under the foam without a problem.
