LAST EDITED ON Apr-11-17 AT 05:32 PM (EDT) >excuse me while I crawl back under my rock. It's not that bad, I mean, it got a smiley. :) Also, it's an excuse to dig up the video that explains why people started calling him Gun Jesus, which has (or at least had, they may have been pruned by now) some of the best incoherently indignant comments you could ever hope to find on a YouTube video about a man with a shotgun. :) --G. -><- Benjamin D. There's a case to be made that Karl and Ian have the best gun-related Youtube content out there. It's really great stuff.I'm particularly excited about a project they introduced today, because it's semi-historical and modern all at once: What would Stoner do if he was designing the AR-15 in 2017? They are doing a series covering each component they chose for the DMR and carbine they 'designed' and they made some bold choices. (Polymer lower receivers: Blasphemy or actual thing?) They covered the builds at a high level in the first video, but I'm really interested to see the thinking that went into them, particularly the internals. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vI5NPiicXjE&t=0s My thoughts: 1) Lord ha'mercy, the GWACS lower is fugly, but I see their reasoning on functional grounds, providing the polymer really is up to the job. The lack of adjustableness of the stock seems problematic to me. 2) The rare earth magnet bipod thing atttatchment sounds awesome. 3) BUIS seem like they wouldn't add a ton of weight, but at the same time - if your red dot has solar backup and lasts for years and isn't as fragile as they were back in the 90s, why not save the weight? 4) Carbon fiber handguards: interesting. But hey, if it works for the aerospace industry, why not?

Those guys have a habit of making me want the things they're showing. I don't wanna be an AR-15 mall ninja! --G. -><- Benjamin D. The weirdest thing to me is that the one not named Karl looks and sounds quite a bit like a guy I used to know in the SCA, who was. (Of course, he'd be 20-30 years older now.)Neat video, though, and well-explained; I could follow it, even as someone who's never picked up a gun and whose only knowledge comes from sources like this column, Wiki, and Cawadoody.

The thing that interests me is, I've seen carbon fibre BUIS...which would be practically negative mass. And what with that...well, the chance of someone actually hitting your red-dot is about as small as can be and not be nil...but it isn't actually nil, and, well, that's why you have back-up. So...why not put that practically negative mass on? I would....! Stoke Mandeville, Esq & The Victorian Ballsmiths "Nobody Want Verdigris-Covered Balls!"

>Nope, didn't even know he was lost, in fact. My favorite reply to "Have you found Jesus?" is the one Bill Bryson recounts in Neither Here Nor There, when his evangelical seatmate on a long flight asks it of him after he'd just finished a protacted operation to retrieve a coin from the airplane floor: "Uh, no, it's a quarter." --G. -><- Benjamin D.
