He's been old as long as I've been alive, but I never contemplated the possibility that he might die. He just seemed like tue sort of person who aged to a certain point and then went, "Okay, I'm done."

In memoriam, here is my favorite Sean Connery joke, which was told to me by a friend in high school. It's a hypothetical conversation between Connery and director Russell Mulcahy on the set of Highlander (1986):

M: Good news, Sean! Everybody in this film is Scottish.

C: That'sh good!

M: Except you.

C: Ah.

M: You're a 4,000-year-old Egyptian who came from the court of the King of Spain by way of feudal Japan.

C: Hmm. I'll havetae practish that.
