Much like with John Paul II's death, the last few years couldn't have been kind to her. So my reaction is more 'she had a good run'.

Many many things could be said about Elizabeth Alexandra Mary, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of Her other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith. Some, surely bad, as with any person who has lived a long time and had some form of position of authority. There are always someone you annoy somewhere. But mostly, I think, good. Very much a person who put duty and service to her nation first, come what may. No matter what, after having reigned for 70 years, reaching the second longest verified reign in history, and the longest serving incumbent head of state, surely she deserves to rest in peace.

For 70 years, she was THE constant in the British Empire. Didn't matter which Prime Minister (15 of them, the first being Winston Churchill) which party was in charge, she was the one constant. Something like 89% of the British population hasn't known any other sovereign. Despite everything, she stay above the fray of politics, not taking sides, not getting involved in the debates, but being the core of the Empire. She will be missed. Craig

>not taking sides, not getting involved in the debates, but being the >core of the Empire Commonwealth. Careful, now. That's a touchy subject these days. --G. -><- Benjamin D.
