Yeah the recent assortment of graduations seems to suggest something else is happening behind the scenes. All is not well in the house of Yagoo.

Gura's practically THE face of Hololive, at least EN but maybe in general. If she graduates, what's it going to look like?

It looks like the VTuber bubble may be about to burst...

Even though we've yet to see Amelia do anything as an Affiliate beyond a background cameo or two, I still hope Gura opts for that.

And who knows, maybe this isn't a graduation announcement at all! (Though priming us for one would be a mean trick, out of character for her, if it isn't.)

EDIT: Well, I missed the beginning, but it was definitely a graduation announcement, and going by her tone, I don't think she's going Affiliate.

Yeah, she's a troll, but that's just cruel.

(Also, fwiw, Calli just canceled her Doom stream that would have overlapped, without explanation.)

It is exactly as we thought. I didn't hear the date, (May 1st, going back) but she said two weeks, and was very emotional - she had to start over a couple of times.

Now, with Mooms, it was health. We know that Gura loves vtubing and such and also that she's had....things going on in her past. It's hard to say if it's health - She gave the usual 'disagreements with management and company direction' but also that it was 'a long time coming'....but that announcement sounded....

A lot more final than many graduation announcements I've heard....

In NON Gura news, the physical source of Kiara's chronic pain was finally identified, after years of her doctors saying it was psychosomatic because "women + doctors = 'You're overreacting'" which is all sorts of bullshit, and good for her for calling the greater medical establishment (thank you, Proginoskes!) Out on it.

Medical establishment, perhaps? If you were talking about jobs or spending, "medical sector" would work.

I haven't followed the link yet, but hopefully identification leads to treatment!

If you haven't seen it yet, Biboo's Birthday Event was pretty epic. It was especially impressive that the whole thing ran flawlessly*

*except for a few minor hitches, like IRyS standing in for Ina during damage animations, Justice all kicking Biboo's ass, and some hp resets but nothing actually broke down and stopped the event.

It seems like this is new, since it was supposed to be held before Christmas, but that was delayed, and then they lost four people (Mooms, Gura, fauna, and Bae’s schedule didn’t let her appear) so she just figured “see if Ame will come back” because she kind of had nothing to lose - her song list was approved and they didn’t want to hassle Hello Project to change it.

Ame's appearance is new. Kendra has the right of it. She wasn't originally scheduled but because of the delay and multiple drop-outs, Kiara just used the power of "ask for it" and was able to get her back to fill the slot.

Also, it was probably non-canon, but the musical still makes me want to theorycraft what it might do with the lore

So Nerissa said it was an AU, thus answering the canon question. Feel free to not read the following, since it's not really relevant any longer. However, since my brain already did all the heavy lifting for this, I needed to put my "how it could work into lore" thoughts down somewhere, which goes as follows:

1) The play had Nerissa imprisoned in a magic tome, not The Cell, but it was only for 1000 of Nerissa's total 9000 years, and she never said it was all done in The Cell, so that doesn't conflict.

2) IRyS and Nerissa are dead at the end of the play, however they both have demonic blood, which means that being sent to Hell* doesn't separate them from their corporeal forms unlike most spirits.
At some point, IRyS gets the chance to explain that Shiori loves Nerissa, which is how she was able to release her (it felt like her dialogue was leaning that direction before the fight). Nerissa, feeling guilty for killing IRyS over a mistake spends the next X amount of time working out a plan to break IRyS out of Hell since she doesn't deserve to be there.

3) Meanwhile, Shiori's body was slain by Nerissa, but Shiori has hinted before that she's weirder or different than a normal human, so it's entirely possible that the death of her body isn't the end of her. If so, her corporeal form would return later (presumably in her Archive).

4) At some point after escaping to the mortal world, Nerissa is recaptured. The gods, realizing that even killing her wasn't enough to secure her, instead resort to sending her to the turbo-jail that is The Cell. Shiori also gets sentenced to The Cell eventually (maybe it becomes specialized in "death is not the end" inmates**). This gives them the chance to reconcile and leads to Advent's breakout.

*Why not Heaven for IRyS? I'm going to seem there were Some Shenanigans involved in getting Shiori to release Nerissa, and IRyS hadn't had time to cleanse herself of her sins at the time she was killed, thus the elevator goes down at that moment.

**Biboo is included in this category because iirc her "self" is contained in the gem on her chest, which means breaking it might just give rise to a horde of smaller, kusogaki-er gem creatures.

"This is probably a stupid question, but . . ."

So I saw the word "perms" and thought of the hair styling thing, which produced some interesting mental images.

Personally, I'd like to see more vtubers (other than Kiara_TV) do randomizers. I suppose the ones that are also romhacks wouldn't go over well, but Axiom Verge has it built into the game so there's really no excuse.

Unfortunately, romhack s of any sort (of which randomizers are a type of) are forbidden, just as cheating is if it’s not built in and intended. Look at the trouble Pekora got into despite only *buying* a cart that may have been hacked.

Japanese companies can be very conservative about intended usage of their products, especially in a context where they could be considered to be advertisements or otherwise shown to the general public.

Smaller streamers can slip under notice, but the Holos are decidedly not small.

And so, the only thing left to make it more interesting for them, who have played the games many times now, would be nuzlockes. It’s unfortunate, but...not much to do.

Is that really the limit of it though? There's lots of different challenge runs for, say, Super Metroid. Is Pokemon really nuzlocke or nothing?

There's other self imposed challenges, but I think a lot of them kinda devolve into grindfests. Remember Fubuki's search for the shiny magikarp? Trying to win with gimmick teams, etc.

You can do a lot more with an action adventure than you can with an RPG. There's no sequence breaking - or at least not as much - There's no no-hit challenge possible, etc.

And it's not just Nintendo, it's pretty much every Japanese company. Losing face by having people think their product is one thing (the hack) when it's not is bad. It could even be thought of as basically false advertising. No matter how clear you are about it not being the thing itself, there will be somebody who buys it expecting that that's what it is. And they'll complain and potentially sue shout it.

I don't know who that is, though 'shiny' pretty much implies excess grinding anyway as I understand things.

Gimmick teams? Well, FF1 and FF5 have gotten a lot of mileage out of team composition stuff. I see no reason why someone couldn't come up with a bingo setup, although that's more of a race thing. It's just had to believe there's nothing else anyone's come up with but -this- shit.

>And it's not just Nintendo, it's pretty much every Japanese company.

Unethically, debatable. But it's legal, and prevents them from getting sued for people not understanding that hacks aren't the actual game they're buying. Japan is a country that is VERY particular about being very clear about what you're getting. To the point they have display food that will show you the size and portions of what's on the menu. This part is speculation, but I presume they can be sued (and lose) if they don't deliver on what was advertised. Even if it wasn't directly advertised but merely implied advertising - like letting a big streaming agency play their games.

Most gimmick team challenges require a lot of grinding, luck, and strategy that isn't really all that interesting to watch live.

You don't know Shirakami Fubuki?

I've described Gigi elsewhere as having the skill to irritate people right up to, but not over the line where they'd strangle her. Between that and her empathetic nature, I'm sure she'd wind it back a bit if she knew it was genuinely irritating her fans.

What I'd really be interested in knowing, does Calli have projections of how much they think the charity drive will bring in when she said she'd play at 500k? I.e. has Gigi worn her down, or does she feel safely out of reach of even a "wouldn't it be funny?" push.

Of course, if Gigi ever ended up in UF, I'd imagine she probably personally owns the League servers just to keep it alive, if you could stomach to make the joke.
