[EDIT: Changing the link to point to the VOD of the stream in question. --G.]

Tonight, Melody is handcam painting WH40K miniatures...

... on her R18 channel.*

I'm going to guess this isn't going to involve impressively precise brush control. :)

* Under the circumstances, do I really need to include a disclaimer about what might happen if you follow that link? :)

As someone who is in the 40k hobby, I need to see this. Though I'm going to have a big sad if she ends up having better brush control than me despite her, uh, distractions.

Quick update, because I am a horrible nerd: She is doing shading with actual paint and managing to keep it neat, whereas I use washes which are an easier technique. So I do have a big sad.

Also she's using a really bizarre color for Orks, teal where they're usually a medium-deep green.

Oh, that's on purpose, it's to go with the highlights in her hair. I remember she said she was going to do that a while back, when she was talking about the visit she paid to a GW shop while she was in Japan last month. IIRC she's planning to make their clothes mostly purple for similar reasons, or at least that was the idea when she was plotting this stream.

Ahh, that makes sense. I hadn't noticed her hair goes all the way to teal until you mentioned that. Not for dirty reasons, I just apparently don't scrutinize Vtuber models that closely (see also missing Nerissa's raven familiar).

I think I'm gonna have to look up the vod later on to see the final result, because that sounds like it'll be an interesting look.

Now she's trying to use Martian Ironcrust as a regular color- it's a "texture" paint made for creating terrain, so it's basically drywall spackle.

From personal experience, it can be done but you practically have to microplane the brush before trying to drybrush it on. I'd say it's easier to just get some of an equivalent dry pigment. (Vallejo's Urban Rust is just about a perfect match!)

Or you can do what Melly did, and dilute the absolute fuck out of it because you really can't control how much thinner you're pouring anyway for... reasons... then use it as a wash. :)

Any landing you walk away from, or something like that.

Judging by the about-a-minute's-worth I watched (which happened to start right before the Thinner Incident), she's still doing better at model painting than anything I've ever accomplished.

(admittedly the last time i tried any model painting was when i was like twelve)

Apparently Mel's computer self-destructed during the painting stream, as in the CPU fan gave out, leaving the processor to merrily cook away. So if you're looking for any more, er, painting content, sounds like it will be a while.

Really sucks for her though.

Fortunately, it seems from her tweets like VSJ's IT team is On It™, even though it didn't happen during one of their streams. Still, it's not a development she needed on top of the whole "apartment ceiling collapses, repairs take the near side of forever and leave dust everywhere, meanwhile she has to sleep on her own couch" thing that's currently unfolding.

From what I understand when they cut the hole in the ceiling to fix the leak, they discovered that her, ah, plumbing was reversed, in some way, so she has to...get her pipes done.

I swear this is what I heard her say.

Honestly, can that girl go one day without something happening that's in some way sexually awkward/suggestive to talk about?

Upon further consideration, as the local weirdo more interested in the background tech of camming than actually watching camming, it struck me as interesting that Melody didn't have the Lovense OSD running. This is not AFAICT unprecedented for her R18 streams, but also not typical - after all, it's apparently pretty good for encouraging people to tip more.

It's not clear whether this was a deliberate choice to reduce the challenge rating of the 'actually paint the mini' part of the proceedings. But if it was, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say "I don't think it worked."

(surprising how close the "paint minis stream sfw or nsfw" vote was)

Maybe, but it's just as likely that the thought process was something like "I got enough moving parts to this frickin' stream as it is, I'ma leave that off tonight." :)

Ehhhhh... I mean, I can't actually rule it out, but after one gets it going the first time around it's pretty much a usage difficulty level of 'refrain from turning it off'.

...Well, except in cases of 'OBS completely loses the plot and extensions just stop working for no apparent reason', but I don't think that's super-common either. The other trouble points I'm aware of demonstrably were working until the part where everything went wrong.

Anyway, it wouldn't be my first guess.
