So Kiara did a call-in stream of pick-up lines last night, and it turns out Biboo can cook when she wants to.

Other highlights include Nerissa trying to claim she'd pin Kiara down (Nerissa is many things, but a top she is not), and spicy Fuwamoco, which I didn't know they could do.

Well, they did start off with a pretty sultry "bau bau", so they're aware of the concept, but they immediately reverted to their regular form. Kiara kept trying to coach them back to using the sultry voice, but they couldn't be convinced.

Also a little disappointed Shiori didn't join the call-in, both to get a full Advent roundup, and to see what kind of insanity she would get up to outside of Henmama's reach.

We now have video evidence that FuwaMoco are at least aware of the concept and know how to try, courtesy of their off-collab karaoke with Nerissa, where they sang "I'm Your Treasure Box". Obviously, Nerissa carried, but the puppies were giving it their best.

Found myself sort of wondering this evening if what attracts people to certain vtubers is their habits or quirks. The reason for this question was because YT has started throwing me Hololive clips now that I've caught up on all the weekly/monthly episodes from my other favorite channels and two of them were from Kaela Kovalskia*. And what I realized I loved about her is her silent laugh, the way her model mimics the motion even though it's so quiet you can only barely hear her make a sound. It's almost the complete opposite of Kiara's laugh which can endanger any exposed glass if you're not careful.

* Aka "Biboo's Mom" or "She Who Never Sleeps"

I think that's the major part of it- there's also a certain appeal of an entertaining presenter showcasing the kind of games you like, but the quirks are are a big draw, at least for me.

Along with the quirks is the "lore", not so much the originally written characterizations but what comes up along the way. Like Kronii is my favorite in HoloEN, because she's portrayed as narcissistic and sadistic, and she tries to be, but then has epic charisma breaks, leading to the memetic GWAK! and her fear of spiders. But then at the same time, she does pull out the sadistic side especially in competitive multiplayer, and it's a riot.

To use Kaela as an example for where I'm coming from, you have her denying her true nature or the pre-Advent-debut bit where she wanted to mine Biboo, which segued beautifully into their current relationship.

For me, it's their personalities, plus (and more often) the games they play. I admit that I can't watch some of them for very long, because their voices just kinda claw at my brain like a rabid squirrel but that's a 'me' problem.

I'm not versed enough on the JP side to know who else is like that, but FuwaMoco is definitely a "love it or hate it" experience for the ears and the brain.

I think that kind of organic injoke continuum is a really important part of how long-running performers like YouTubers and livestreamers (both virtual and not) interact with their communities. Not only do they provide nice "I was there" moments for viewers who saw them originate (e.g., the people who were watching the Kronii vs. the Spider stream live), recognizing callbacks to them later on helps later arrivals feel like they're getting the hang of the place.

Both factors feel like part of the rationale behind HoloEN3DRepeat, which COVER just announced has been so successful that they're going weekly with it. How's that for a segue? :)

Now that you mention it, quite a few vtubers I can think of have endearingly particular laughs. There's Kaela, of course, and Biboo, whose laugh has been compared to a window squeegee and Flipper. Calli laughs like Mio Sakamoto, Doki laughs like a Honda Accord that won't start, and Bae (a personal favorite of mine) is a fire alarm.* And of course there is Pekora.

Upon reflection, I guess it stands to reason that vocal distinctiveness is an important part of the job for a lot of these performers, and that extends beyond laughter for a fair few of them. Kronii's alarmed goose honk is probably best known; there's also Fauna's "uuuu," Calli's "guh!" (which is signature enough that it has its own subscriber emote) and "prrroink!", the many WAHs of Ina, and of course Ame is renowned for her wide range of goblin noises.

--G.
* Fun fact: when she gets going, Bae laughs a lot like Mae from C&Rsenal. Coincidence?**

** Yes. Yes it is.

There's also Pekora with her HA⬈HA⬈HA⬈HA⬊HA⬊HA⬊HA laugh, though she apparently doesn't do it much anymore because it hurts her voice.

I especially love it when clippers actually drag a window wiper across the screen with Biboo laughs.

Then there's the catchphrases, some of which might as well be vocal tics- Kaela's "Get Some Help!" and Kiara's "YOU LITTLE SHIT!" come to mind.

These often end up getting made into subscriber emoji (Ina's "humu humu" and Calli's habit of saying "big ups" in response to superchats come to mind).

Just making a random comment that I tried to give Shinri more of a shot recently and really enjoyed his Pacific Drive streams. You can tell he really loves the game, just constantly gushing over it, and he also demonstrates a passable level of competence as a bonus. As part of Holoh3ro's anniversary week, Kaela has scheduled the Apocalypse for our viewing pleasure, tonight (3/25) at 10pm Eastern.

Seriously though, it's going to be an 8-player multiplayer bash featuring a mix of sweaty tryhards (Kaela and Biboo), actual sadists (Mumei and Kronii), punching bags (Bae and Calli, who aren't really good at these kinds of games, but make for hilarious reactions), a simp (Nerissa), and garnished with some straight-up derangement (Shiori). I don't know exactly what will happen, but I expect it will be hilarious.

I think she said once that she's very sensitive to dust, and their place in the Northwest Passage was pretty dusty. IIRC, the official unofficial Moco-sneeze count (because of course someone was keeping one) stopped at 200 shortly before they moved.

Earlier today on Twitter, Kaela and Biboo were having a friendly argument over eating and sleeping at reasonable times and in appropriate amounts, which led to one user accusing them of "flirting".

Hence the title of the thread: Do, uh, do either of those two know how to do that? I mean, Biboo did do the White Day call-in with Kiara, but that could be put down to rote repetition of material. Likewise, would either of them recognize they're being flirted with, if it happened?

Also I'm mildly impressed that Kaela didn't burst into flames from the hypocrisy of telling someone else to sleep properly.

All I can think is, "wait until Advent gets their 3d models"- yes I know that HoloGra is based off of character lore and maybe intro videos, but that's the problem: Bijou and Nerissa were imprisoned for causing insanity in people, plus Nerissa made her declaration of no pantsu in her intro.
