Starting this one off with the distilled essence of Shiori Novella.

So if Mori is Death and Kronii is now Pestilence, which holomems are War and Famine?

If we're sticking to EN, I'd pick either Ame (FPS gamer) or Mumei (murderous psycho) for War. As for Famine, I'd go for Shiori on account of her (lack of) cooking skills.

Upon reflection, it strikes me that Biboo could be either, because she is the Stone That Is Approaching, and she has often baffled chat with her stories of how, e.g., a 10-piece McNuggets combo lasts her like three days.

She will never match Kronii eating five day old Subway sandwiches. Or the horror show that was the "Will It Blend?" stream. The woman is a glutton for self-punishment and even she thought that it had gone too far.

Well, I assume she refrigerated the uneaten part between nibbles.

I would hope so, otherwise she has a stomach made of carbon neutronium.

Though I have to wonder which is worse, a 5-day-old sandwich, or reheated McNuggets?

Well, she's a living amethyst, so I have to assume it's at least some kind of silicate material. :)

Depends on how you reheat them, I suppose. I've done it in a waffle iron, and that worked out pretty good. As a bonus, if you reheat McDonald's fries in a waffle iron, it basically turns them into waffle fries.

--G.
That's only the second-best non-waffle thing you can cook in a waffle iron, though. The absolute best is Pillsbury Poppin' Fresh Cinnabon rolls, oh my actual gods.

War almost has to be Mumei. Not only does her developed reputation work, but War by definition requires societies. Baelz almost works for Famine from a similar official-lore angle, but the reputation isn't really there.

That's true. Also, mythologically speaking, Athena was a war goddess and, depending on your source, either an owl enthusiast or an actual owl part of the time. I'm not sure Cover's lore writers were cutting that deep, but hey, if the feathers fit, might as well wear them. :)

I'm not really seeing the connection to mass starvation, but I feel like Chaos would be its own horseman, if early Christian theology had recognized it as a discrete concept heralding the end of days.

I mean, Mumei's not actually supposed to be an owl either, just themed, isn't she? I'd say she still fits as "either an owl enthusiast or an actual part time owl". :)

As for Bae, mayhap they're going with the idea of rats because the cause of several (at least one big one) of histories various plagues.

She's an owl in the same way that Bae is a rat, Gura is a shark, et al. Like, she never appears on-screen as an actual owl, but she's retweeted plenty of fan art that depicts her that way.

Well sure, but the Lore(tm) I mean. Bae And Gura are Rat and Shark *enough*, but I think Mooms just has the feather decorations, and even made that clear in her debut?

(Contrast Reine And Kiara, who are definitely a turkeypeafowl and a chickenchicken)

She’s more bird than Subaru is, lorewise, but that’s a bar that doesn’t even exist.

.....speaking of barely explainable animal in jokes, why the heck is Nene a seal? I don’t disagree, I just don’t quite get *why*.

Her official talent bio says she's "The Guardian of Civilization, a traveling owl who has borne witness to numerous events," though later on in the same bio they do say she's "now a lovely girl," so... I guess she's both?

As for the Nene-seal thing, I dunno. Her bio just says she's "a girl from another world," which could mean she's an alien or possibly that she got isekai'd from some other world into this one, which... I dunno, I gotta say I would be disappointed if that happened to me. "I come from a world of magic and wonder, but then I got hit by a runaway oxcart and here I am paying taxes."

Maybe she just has one of those "arf arf arf" seal laughs? I'm not very familiar with her.

I was going for "any civilization is three square meals away from total anarchy", combined with the vague idea that Famine seems less predictable than War or even Pestilence, given the diversity of potential causes. That one of those causes is rodents is a bonus.

War was already well nominated as Mumei, but I will call an audible and say that Famine is EN Gen 0 member HAACHAMA. :)

This one's an oldie, comparatively speaking:

I didn't get this impression from Mumei's cover, but when I then watched/listened to the original Hoshimachi Suisei version of Stellar Stellar, I immediately felt like it was a more uplifting/optimistic version of "ODDS & ENDS". The MV probably does a lot of the heavy lifting on that, but I don't think it's the only thing at play.

...when I read ODDS & ENDS I couldn't think of anything other than the collab song sung by the antagonists of Kamen Rider Geats.

I would be ... surprised if that's a cover of the song I was referring to.

I haven't studied translations of either song's lyrics deeply, but I gather they do have similar messages. "Stellar Stellar" is very bound up in Suisei's struggle to get established as an artist.
