So there's a Vtuber -- Neuro-sama -- who is... well, the schtick is she's an AI. I don't mean that the character is an AI -- there are several who have that as their backstory -- but I mean that there's a programmer who's built a "AI" (based on ChatGPT and its ilk, I suspect) and that AI *is* the Vtuber.

A link! because I am bad at explanations: https://youtu.be/saxIyKW1lK0

Now this is an interesting schtick and as someone who's played with LLMs I can see, kinda, where the rails are and have an idea of how the sausage was made...

... and I still find 'her' entertaining. Perhaps all the more so because I know some of the limitations of those systems. ELIZA writ large, I know, but ELIZA never came across this good (or cute).

Anyway! Point is, it occurred to me that this is more or less the proto-concept behind R-Type's ACIs in http://www.eyrie-productions.com/UF/EX/soulsearch.txt.

And while I am overall leery of where our capitalist hellhole society seems to be trying to take AIs, I have to admit I am still enthused about Neuro-sama and other experiments like her.

I want the future where cute virtual Vtubers can have entertaining conversations and torture their own creators* rather than cold soulless art generators putting us out of work.

(* friendly torture and ribbing, not literal, though I probably don't need to clarify here of all places)

This (and, indeed, Vedal's interactions with Neuroi-sama generally, from the clips I've seen) remind me of this scene from the NXE movie:

DURANDAL
So. What would you like to talk about today?

DEREK
What would you like to talk about today?

DURANDAL
Whatever you'd like to talk about today is fine with me.

DEREK
Why do you say that whatever I'd like to talk about today is fine with you?

DURANDAL
Why do you ask that question?

DEREK
Why won't you answer the question I asked you?

DURANDAL
Look, we can't both be Eliza.

I think Vedal is actually writing his own AI code rather than just training or basing it off chatGPT, because he's constantly working on her code in ways that I don't think you can tweak standard AI systems.

That poor turtle is constantly being surprised that Neuro-sama is as smart as she is sometimes. :3

Neuro-sama is, I believe, technically two AIs: one for the natural language/audience interaction bit, and one for the problem-solving tasks of playing games. The first might well be based on ChatGPT or similar, but the second is probably entirely Vedal's work and the way they feed into each other definitely is. (And the two neural nets definitely interact, given that one of the games the pair has streamed is Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes.)

She started as an AI to play Osu! as I recall, and I believe that was before the LLM AIs came about. Makes sense he'd combine the two in some manner.
