I love it when a vtuber does a character voice while, e.g., playing an unvoiced game, and someone in chat invariably says "wow, you could be a professional voice actor!"Like... that's what vtubers are. It's literally what they're doing: voicing a character while they themselves remain unseen. Every single one of them, all the time. :) --G. -><- Benjamin D. Just off the top of my head, I know Monarch* from VShojo is a voice actress and singer who's still in the business, as is CyYu who you may have heard in Zenless Zone Zero (he voices Anton Ivanov). And Vexoria the Sun Eater (aka "Vex") did some voice acting in an English dub this past year. We know a certain detective/train conductor worked on (but did not receive an Emmy for) an unnamed series as a foley artist. That's the fun thing about being a vtuber, you can do that stuff as a side gig to whatever your normal job is and (usually) nobody will find out unless you tell them. *Aka "Amalee," aka "Leeandlie," aka "The Official Scuff Queen of Twitch."

There's also a video of Henya reacting to Melody's reaction around somewhere, if you don't think your life has enough recursion in it.(Also, Cotton will always be the voice of Kril from Another Crab's Treasure for me.) -IA. (received information not interpretable)

I wish people could restrain themselves from posting stuff like "don't go" in the chat of soon-to-graduate streams, like Mumei's final livestream last night. It's not as though anyone in Mumei's position is going to reconsider at that stage (or that the company would go along with it if they did); all you're accomplishing is to make her feel worse about it, which is thoughtless at best and attempted emotional blackmail at worst.Mind you, as emotional blackmail, it does pale in comparison to the one green superchat I noticed earlier in the same stream that contained an explicit suicide threat. That guy needs to get some help--one way or the other. --G. -><- Benjamin D. I feel horrible, but the first thing that came to mind was "they're going to pull that and they can only shell out for a green?" It's like it's so out there that I can't interact with the comment rationally. Poor Mumei, feel bad she had to go through that. "This is probably a stupid question, but . . ."

Jeez. That's jank at the best of times, but reaches the point of "really kinda fucked up" when it comes to someone who's retiring in part for health reasons. (Er, assuming I'm not mixing her up with someone else; I don't have a real good grip on who's who in holo.) -IA. (received information not interpretable)

No, you’re right, Mooms has a cough that she’s had for like, a year, year and a half, and it hit the point she didn’t think she can continue singing or doing a lot of talking. Which really fuckin’ sucks, since that’s what vtubers *do*, and what she loved doing.

Definitely what I said then. I can understand if not approve of "pleaaaase don't go", but when it gets to an implied "entertaining me is more important than your health", a line has been crossed.-IA. (though a vtuber who doesn't sing or talk does come to mind)

LAST EDITED ON Apr-29-25 AT 00:53 AM (EDT) >I wish people could restrain themselves from posting stuff like "don't >go" in the chat of soon-to-graduate streams, like Mumei's final >livestream last night. It's not as though anyone in Mumei's position >is going to reconsider at that stage (or that the company would go >along with it if they did); all you're accomplishing is to make her >feel worse about it, which is thoughtless at best and attempted >emotional blackmail at worst. I posted this paragraph as a comment on a clip of someone in chat doing that very thing during Mumei's last livestream, and almost immediately got a reply calling the remark "deluded and rude" to said people. It concluded with the command, "Get off your high horse." No; no, I don't think I shall. The view is better from up here. I said what I said. (The respondent also didn't seem to draw a distinction between people saying "don't go," as an imperative to the streamer, and people saying they wished it didn't have to be this way. I tend to think there is a very significant distinction between those two groups, but hey, don't go by me.) --G. -><- Benjamin D. 'Don't Go' and 'I wish you didn't have to go' should very much be thought of as different things, yeah. In the moment, I'd probably have trouble distinguishing it, though, in all honestly...it's the kind of thing I'd look back on and go 'ohhhhhhh....shit' and hate myself for for two or three decades, like how I still hate myself for things I said to an artist at a convention without thinking back in 2000 when I was even stupider than I am now.

I mentioned Monarch/Amalee is a professional voice actress and I got a reminder of that this past Thursday when the latest round of English VAs added to my gacha drug of choice Arknights included her as the voice of the operator "Ceylon." At the same time, I also found out that she'd already appeared as the voice of another operator named "Bubble"Thankfully for the Scuff Queen, they still haven't added CyYu to the cast...yet.
