No shop day this weekend; instead, Dad and I went to day two of this weekend's event at one of our favorite museums, Owls Head Transportation Museum, down on the coast between Rockland and South Thomaston. OHTM has a number of "cruise-in"-type events on weekends in the summer, of which this weekend's Classic Truck Show was one.I'm still recovering from an MS flare that has eaten the last few weeks (ironically, right as I was receiving the letter from SSA saying, in part, that the judge at the hearing doesn't believe my own assessment of how debilitating my condition is!), so I had all I could manage to just walk around without trying to juggle my phone and take photos. The one exception was... not of any of the really cool trucks on display. Instead, it's a row of cars that are parked in the hangar awaiting the big auction they have at the museum every summer.
I'm not sure what it says about me that, even though I approached this group from the other side and so got to the Roller first, my instinctive reaction was "Ooh! A Jeepster!" ... but whatever it says, I don't think I mind.
As for the trucks, there were many cool things on display, including a 1966 GMC Suburban rat rod, numerous B-model Macks, a Brockway (when was the last time you saw a Brockway?), and a beautiful 1952 Ford F-1 whose owner said he bought it as a present for his wife when they got married. I think the coolest, though, was a running and driving Diamond T-built M3 halftrack chassis. No body, just the frame and running gear. I think it's mid-restoration, but I couldn't really make out the PA while the MC was talking about it during the parade. It was neat to see the drivetrain working away without any of the bodywork or armor to obscure it, though.
If we have to remove the cab from Angus to get the floor repaired, I think we should build it as a rolling chassis like that to run in the engine while we're waiting. :)
