>VTuber > >VTuber Legend: How I Went Viral after Forgetting to Turn Off My >Stream gives the setup away rather nicely. Yuki Tanaka went from >foul-mouthed alcoholic employee of a black company to a sweet, lovable >VTuber at Live-On who is only foul-mouthed and alcoholic when she's >off the clock. Then the title happens, her fans find out about her >love affair with Strong Zero (did Suntory pay for the mentions? They >should have.), and her low-to-middling numbers go through the roof. > >Amusingly, the VTubers always appear as their streaming characters, >although whether it's because that's how the source did it or because >it's cheaper to just make one character model is beyond me. Isn't that basically a summary of the vtubing industry as a whole? It really feels like, as vtubing has branched out from Asian markets and into Western ones, the cutesy and "family-friendly" atmosphere gave way to vtubers as people who feel most comfortable being themselves with a wafer-thin illusion of anonymity. You consider the rise of "menhera" vtubers like Pippa or "hag" vtubers like Matara and it's clear that the industry is a far cry from what it was even half a decade ago.
