Some of the silly details in this show really please me on some hard-to-define level.

For instance: the scene where Fern asks directions to a sweets shop and is directed to the seediest-looking dive bar, which is full of the roughest-looking characters available who say everything in the most sinister possible tones of voice, so that everything sounds like sarcasm as prelude to brutality. "Sweets, is it? Oh yeah! Me an' my boys can show ya to the best sweets, baby. Ain't that right, boys?"

And then they all get up and... take time out of their day to escort her to a café-pâtisserie that does the best puddings and little cakes in town. I love it when shows do stuff like that. :)
