From the guy who writes the only football column I read:

"The Pentagon actually is working on a computer system called HAL -- "Host Accessory Logic" -- for an Air Force program known as the Advanced EHF communications satellite. A word of advice to the technicians: If it starts to sing, run."

Jesus Quack! You'd think anyone with enough brains to design
a computer system would have brains enough to NOT name it
HAL.

That's not asking for trouble, that's inviting trouble into
your drawing room and asking it if it would like a nice cuppa
tea...

I suppose Someone thought the idea of the name was cute.
Either that or they are really big fans of NXE. :)

Yes, well, at least they're not working something called SHODAN. I'd really be more worried if that were the case.

A little something in the black budget eh? O.o

(mad scientist voice) Just think! H.A.L. will be the user friendly one!
SHODAN will be reserved for military ops! (mad scientist voice)

I think it'd be ammusing in an ironic "You asked for that one" kinda way.
