I shall do necromancy to this thread, because it's my party and I'll cry if I want to!

I still haven't seen the Rebuild of Evangelion movies (because why would I do that to myself :), but in conjunction with this odd impulse to re-experience NXE, I have seen a lot of mostly-context-free connected artwork, courtesy of danbooru. I'm particularly fond of this one (SFW, but a lot of stuff there isn't, you know the drill); that face says to me, "Let's face it, this is not the worst thing you've caught me doing," which is an attitude I like in an Asuka. (Also, I kind of dig the low-budget plugsuit repairs. It's nice that she cared enough to colormatch her duct tape. I further choose to believe that she has Mio Sakamoto Eye, not an injury.)

Also this one, to my comment upon which I have nothing much to add. I think that's basically UF-Rei's resting face, actually. The Sith Code teaches us: Don't start none, won't be none. :)

At any rate, it's all got me thinking a bit more about the joke I made a few years ago, about what an NXE reboot would look like:

>>>Poor DJ, in particular, will be thrilled to be getting the
>>>hell out of Germany, but at the same time crushed that it's not to go
>>>home, and that he has to take die Walküre along. Good times.

Upon reflection, I think if I were going to reset NXE, I'd probably skip the mutual abrasion phase, particularly if we were first seeing DJ and Asuka on screen some time after their actual meeting. It's, y'know, we've done that. And besides, she'd be just as glad to be getting out of Germany as he is.

Actually, a series set at a NERV base where nothing much ever happens would be amusing in a Non-Adventures of Wonderella kind of way. It's not a joke that would be sustainable, but it would have worked as an NXE Bonus Theater!! segment if I'd thought of it at the time. DJ and Asuka sitting around a structure like the old Wedge Booth No. 1 in the secret EVA hangar EuroNERV set up in the old U-boat pens at Kiel, bored out of their skulls, playing cards and wondering why Japan HQ is getting all the love. Maybe sitting around in their EVAs playing giant cards just for the change of pace. Cobwebs on the gantries. A slow, maddening drip somewhere in the shadowy background. Sausages and black coffee. Asuka shooting her initials into the wall out of sheer boredom, Sherlock Holmes style. Day counter in the lower left corner slowly advancing, as the only visible change to the scene (apart from the constantly changing covers of the books they're both reading) is that by Day 255 it's becoming obvious that DJ's going to need to start shaving soon. The first rule of EVA Club is you don't talk about EVA Club.

Heh. I don't even need to write that, I just did. :)

>>I might pay to see that. If only because the production values would
>>be better this time around. Does DJ crush the US armed forces again?
>>Maye this time with more Michael Bay(tm)?

Hey, he blew up the AT&T Building last time! That was pretty baytastic.

Anyway, he probably wouldn't need to fight the US Army the second time around, although he might have had some trouble with the authorities in Germany before they left, particularly if he got bored enough to find out how much he could really get an EVA up to on a derestricted Autobahn.

"It was a little misunderstanding with 147 Mecklenburg cops! I thought they were soldiers."

>(Also: my mental image of Exodus 2.0 Rei is basically
>Rei's body inhabited by the spirit of Jeff "The Dude" Lebowski.
>Possibly because of all the painkillers she's been on since the EVA-00
>Test Incident. Rei abides.)

ASUKA
Also, let's not forget that keeping wildlife, a flightless Antarctic waterfowl, for, uh, domestic, you know, within the city, that's not legal either.

REI
What are you, a fucking park ranger now? Who gives a shit about the fucking penguin?
