LAST EDITED ON Oct-16-01 AT 07:11 PM (EDT)I was rereading NXE for the umpteenth time, with Winamp running an excessively long playlist of songs, and I realized that there are some music cues mixed in. And Gryphon-dono made a post sometime with a couple theme songs, but I was wondering if there were any 'official' adopted themes for characters and aspects....
In any event, I'll post my own opinions here and you can all flame me.
Asuka Langely Soryuu's Main Theme: 'Engel', by Rammstein.
Rei's Thinking song: 'Who wants to Live Forever', remixed by Dune
Ikari Shinji's depression: 'Gau', by Nobuo Uematsu
Battle of the Eternal Soldier: 'Dragula', by Rob Zombie
BERSERK! theme: 'Superbeast', by Rob Zombie
Magi Panic! Computer attack: 'Feed your Supermind', by Elwood
SEELE Assault: 'Descent into Cerberon', by Sonic Mayhem
Ikari wa Ikari: 'Blue Monday', Orgy
Espionage Gone Bad - X-COM Theme: "When Worlds Collide", Powerman 5000
Ethereal Shadows - SHODAN's Theme: "Fiction", Orgy
Gendou's Theme: 'Unforgiven', by Metallica
The Magi and I - Hal's theme: "Pocket Calculator", by Kraftwerk
Kaji Appears: 'Pulp Fiction Title Theme', dunno who by.
Lucifer's Presence: 'Masters of the Universe', by Juno Reactor
Ayanami Special - Omake! Omake!: "Cutey Honey theme", Cutey Honey
Croft Special - Omake! Omake!: "These are not my pants", by Five Iron Frenzy
Gendou Special - Omake! Omake!: "My Evil Plan To Save The World", by Five Iron Frenzy
(ed: I think the above two merit a bit of an explanation.
Well, you'll have to hear the first song to get it, and imagine Gendou on a desk singing the second one to understand. <secondary ed: Shamelessly stolen from a spamfic, of course>)
Ellisons - The needs of the many: "Ur-Quan", from Star Control 2
Celestial Romance - The Needs of the Few: "Rainbow to the Stars", by Dune
Ending Theme for Book 3 - "Knife of Romance", Angel Sanctuary

>'Asuka is having a flashback' theme: 'Dream of Red', by the Police (I
>think)
I believe the song you're thinking of is "Desert Rose", which was the lead single on Sting's most recent album, Brand New Day. If so, the line is actually "I dream of rain," although my mental filter usually cuts off the "n" and makes me momentarily confused if I'm not paying enough attention. :)
At any rate, it doesn't really strike me as an Asuka song; it's not angry enough to be a tune that focuses on her past and not hopeful enough to focus on her future. It's more melancholy than that, and Asuka isn't really the melancholy type. It's sad-sounding enough for Rei, but I've currently got such strong associations between it and another series (the noun in the title ought to give you a clue :) that I can't really see that right now...
>Croft, one bad mutha: 'Descent into Cerberon', by Sonic Mayhem
I'm not familiar with this track at all, but I'd just like to mention for the record that the first time I looked at it, I read it as "Descent into Cybertron", which also made me very confused for a moment. :)
DJ's theme by the original MOSAICs was Genesis's "I Can't Dance"; Eric Clapton's "It's In the Way that You Use It" wouldn't be a bad choice either...
>Espionage Gone Bad - Kaji's Theme: "When Worlds Collide", Powerman
>5000
An early draft of MOSAIC 2 had Johnny Rivers's classic "Secret Agent Man" as Kaji's theme ("there's a man who lives a life of danger / to everyone he meets he stays a stranger").
>Ethereal Shadows - Ayanami's Theme: "Fiction", Orgy
The lyrics to this song make it chillingly appropriate for, of all things, the premise of the System Shock games. They could be singing about SHODAN. It's kind of eerie.
Rei's theme according to the original MOSAICs was Yes's "Owner of a Lonely Heart", though it's really only appropriate for the first season. Overall... well, I'd have to give it some thought.

Right. I'm an idiot. The only .mp3 I have of it is named that, so I kinda just assumed.

Yeah, well, I'm slightly off here. It wasn't exactly Kaji's theme, but it was very late at night. I actually meant it as something else, but I couldn't put my finger on it...I'll edit it and fix it.

See above time excuse.
Well, I'm going to revise and edit the above list. Thanks for the commentary.
