Oh yeah, I remember being told about that at some point in the past (it might have been in one of the many posts on the UF board that can no longer be accessed).

I must have seen Wizard World, since I was at Busch Gardens in the fall of 1989 (my high school's jazz band took part in the Williamsburg Fiestaval that year), but the statues apparently didn't make much of an an impression, or I'd probably have recognized the photo when it came my way a few years later. I wasn't called Gryphon yet at that point, so I wouldn't have taken any special notice.

It's a shame that they're gone now, although I suppose that's a natural part of any theme park's ecology. I wonder what happened to the props...
