Did something change recently with how messages are loaded for a selected thread?

I've noticed over the past couple days that whenever I access a message thread, only the Message 0 and a message tree load for threads above a certain number of messages long (somewhere between 5 and 10 messages I think, because I did see threads only 13 messages long that were collapsed). To access the remaining messages the user must either click View All or click individual messages. But previously, whenever I clicked on a thread, all messages loaded.

Jeanne

Nope.

A thread with more than 3 replies loads just the first post and the thread index - it has been that way since we setup the forums.

If you click on the 'View All' link in the topics listing you load the entire thread, or there is now a View All in the TOC for the thread in the threaded view.

It has been this way since the start.

On this visit to the forum, a random sample of "new messages" for me shows the 5/21 sotd thread (#666 in UF conference), with 4 replies, the Blasters thread (#665 in UF), with 8 replies, and the financial emergency thread (#26 in Marketplace), with 4 replies, are expanded (first post, index, and all messages). This is the way I'm used to seeing them, and contrary to how you've explained how things work.

Is there some sort of time limit, where previously expanded threads stay expanded until the thread hasn't been read by a particular user for a certain period of time, at which point they'll be collapsed (the way you explained they're supposed to be) on the next visit?

Strange, since I most definitely didn't have to click View All to get all messages before, even with those humongously long threads. Must have been some lucky happenstance for me, back then and right now.

4 replies, or a post and 3 replies - for 4 posts total.

Maybe you'd better explain just what you do when you come to the forums - where to you go. For example - do you click on the name of a forum, and then a thread to read it? Do you use 'read new'?

I believe the links from 'read new' are always 'view all'.

>Is there some sort of time limit,

Nope. It is all realtime. The moment there are 4 replies, it switches. I suppose it is possible for someone to click on a thread at the very instant it is updated, but even then I'm not sure what they'd get.

On this visit, this thread, "what will they think of" (General #366, 3 messages), "5/21 sotd" (UF #666, 13 msg), "Irkens" (UF #669, 6 msg), and "Tremayne lightsaber" (UF #664, 23 msg) all showed first post, index, and all messages. The "more SOS music" (UF #670) only had the first post. So everything available except the new message was displaying first post, index, and all messages for me.

Which is different from what it was doing over the weekend and up until Tuesday.

I come in to http://www.eyrie-productions.com/Forum/ . I have the always logged in option selected. Then I click the Read New button to read messages.

>I believe the links from 'read new' are always 'view all'.

Except for 2-3 days recently, the links from 'read new' were giving first post, index, and no messages. That's what caused me to ask if something had changed. I was used to seeing first post, index, and all messages. Now it's apparently changed back, at least for me, because yesterday I continued to see first post, index, no messages, then later yesterday I started seeing first post, index, all messages again, which is what I'm seeing now.

Well, I don't know of anything changing on this end.
