Who said you had to have a genius IQ to survive? I said he was ex-special forces, but NOT all special forces exercises invovle total stealth. As for falling for the same trick THREE times, each time They had him over a barrel and wasn't in the mood to think about the possibility of being faked out like that.
Who said anything about your team? He's a team unto himself, IF you haven't noticed.
