Her gun. Also the name of a town a little ways north of Dallas-Fort Worth in Texas; friend of mine used to live there. Best used bookstore I ever saw.

Blessed be.

I used to live in Denton and I think I know which store you're talking about. It was downtown on the corner of the city square, and had a little bit of everything. I went in there looking for a copy of "Lensman", and they had it. Granted it was from the 1950's and they wanted over $100 for it, but they had it. The bookstore is probably the only thing I miss about that town. Too many people with 10 gallon hats and half gallon heads. Uhh in reference to the original topic, no idea who Jon Link is either. Sorry.

Okay. Once I've got some money, I'm gonna have to grab the wife and drive up to denton, I see. If I've lived 20 miles away from a kick-ass used bookstore for the last 5 years, I'm gonna be _PISSED_.

Anyone got a name for me?

you've never been to Portland, OR and been in Powell's, then.

(A used bookstore that takes up an entire city block... and then the computer and science books are two blocks away in a different store. And a free bus ride from there six blocks is the travel books. And for $1 is a bus trip to the cookbook store....)

I have! Woderful place if you're trying to find something you can't find anywhere else. :) I've never been to the sub-stores, but the main store I've been to plenty. It's often hard to find a parking spot around there.

The key is parking garages...Powell's garage sucks, and they charge for it now.
You can park a block away in the Whole Foods Market(the chain that merged with Bread&Circus) garage, which is pretty decent, go to Powell's, come back, and buy a snack while you get your parking pass validated.

The problem is that it's just as easy to splurge at Whole Foods as it is at Powell's. (Especially if you're hungry)

Not anymore. Not for, oh, a few years now.

But I still remember wandering it fondly, and remember getting a copy of 'The Deed of Paksenarrion' in the trade paperback there. That's gone now, and been replaced (binding broke), but without Powell's, I don't think I would ever have read it.

Yup... I have most of it in e-book format, now. Including all of the 'Familias Regnant' stuff she's been doing since she started playing with McCaffery.

I rather enjoy it.

best little bookstore I ever saw was the semi independant UK kingdon of Hay-on-Wye. (someone declaired it independant of the UK for a joke, and well...)

anyway, it's a small welsh village full of the sort of second hand bookstore that just screams L-space, and I kid you not, it's easier to by a book than food.

We tried.

(there's something like 40-50 second hand bookstores in the place, none of them less than large. the biggest used to be at least an acre)

Seems to me that that one Lensman, Ms. Readmore (fergot her name, dammit!), would love to be in a place like that... Except that it seems she enjoys having a bite to eat when reading... *Remembers that one scene in SOS where she took out an armored MP Trooper.*
