Apropos of nothing in particular. There's a "band" on mp3.com called PowerMac, which is, in fact, just a PowerMac that's been configured to sing various songs through Macintalk. I rather like their rendition of the Hallelujah chorus from Handel's Messiah, but my favorite track by far is their version of "Advance Australia Fair", Australia's official national anthem (as opposed to Australia's unofficial national anthem, "Waltzing Matilda") - mainly because the programmer went to the trouble of adjusting the phonemes so that the computer is singing in an Australian accent, which makes it go something like:

Austral'yins all lit us rejoice
For wy are young and fray;
Wy've gaulden soil and wilth for toil
Our howme is girt boy say!
Our land abeunds with nyture's gifts
Of beautoy rich and rare;
In histr'ys pyge lit ivry styge
Advance Austral'ya fair!
In joyful stryns thin lit us sing:
Advance Austral'ya fair!

Most of the things I've read about Australia over the years have given me the impression that it is, on balance, a delightful country. Perhaps I should go there. I mean, the United States has achieved a great many things in the realm of political comedy, but we've never yet had a president die in a bodysurfing accident.
