This is probably a dumb question, but are people making the crack weasel numbers up are they getting them from some place?

If they're made up, then mine's #29.

I'm guessing they're totally pulled out of thin air. I'd make one up, but I've previously stated my reasons for not joining :)

I'd considered seeing if there was some way I could determine signup order from when the boards opened, but I gave up that idea and instead just used 42. AFAIK, I was the first one to use a number in my RCW reference.

If you don't know what 42 means, I'm not going to bother explaining it to you. 23 is an Illuminatus! reference. I don't know the significance of the others I've seen.

Oh, sure, it starts as fun and games, assigning numbers and rank. Just wait until the locator chips and boot camp kick in, though, and we'll see who's laughing then.

I think the "rabid crack " is here to stay. As long as it doesn't get overplayed it won't get old.

If you want a number, then I suggest picking one that isn't already in use. I only started putting a number on mine as a way of differentiating the crack weasel .sig joke from the other crack weasel .sig jokes. I didn't expect everyone else to start giving themselves numbers, too.

(I'm wondering if Gryph is, right now, shaking his head and saying, "I've created a monster...")

Chose mine for the hull number of the ship I was on when I was first introduced to UF. It was the USS John C. Stennis CVN-74. As a plankowner (part of the commissioning crew) a piece of it is mine (I think, have to check the legality). So I chose my Rabid Crack Weasel number from that.

In one of the latest installments of the Symphony of the Sword arc, Gryphon put in the credits "Patience of rabid crack weasels, the EPU Forum Users...kidding!" Since then, the joke of the RCW has become t-shirts, mugs, caps and the like, and people have been proclaiming their number with something that resembles pride. A curious creature, the rabid crack weasel, and rare, for their only found on a small little place on the internet....

um just wondering...there must be rules for picking a RCW num like the obvious
dont take a number thats already taken. Although human creativity does seem remarkable when looking at the ways people find ways around that one(for instance the infamous number 13...tum ta dum tum taaa!) ..... are there any others?

I have not checked but is number 15 available ??
