Maybe it's old news, but I just found references to Mainger 1901, done by Fewture Models. http://perso.wanadoo.fr/zenkuro/hobbyforever/reviewtoys/mazinger1901/mazinger1901.html has a bunch of pictures and an article in french, http://www.toyboxdx.com/rumble_plus/032802-mazinger.html has less pictures but an article in English and a link to Fewture's web site.

I think, were I to be in a G-Gundam style environment, this is what I'd want to be riding... I think it's around the right size, at 40-45 feet.

I actually considered Mazinger 1901 in Old Exterminator's place for Arena, but it would have required Corwin to have spent the previous several months on Ishiyama studying the local tech base as a consultant for Kanzaki Heavy Industries, and he's still got school at that story's timeframe. Maybe later. :)

Think of it as a really heavily modified RX-78 or -79. One that Kohran got her hands on :)

I really want one. Too bad the only mecha models around here are Gundam Wing.

Better than what we have up north, theres a small secondhand bookshop in Cairns that has some of the Eva units, but thats it.

I'd be luckier if I had AU$60 (about US$35) that I could afford to spend on one :) Maybe I should get one before I move south, I have no idea where I could find one in Brisbane...

Probably Eva-01, it's always been my favourite. Despite what happens to Touji in episode 8(?), I can't help but smile when the Beast II song kicks in and the dummy plug takes over.

And Eva-01 is the one that I got! Its really cool, comes with a pistol, extra clip, knife, the assault rifle and even a little Kaoru :) Also included was an alternate head (berserker mode) and an umbilical cable (with a small plug for the hole if you take the cable out) It's currently sitting on top of my printer and pointing the pistol at me :)

I bought a Limited Model, High Grade Eva 01 in korea for the approx equivalent of $33. Boy, the time spent on the plane trip home seemed a lot shorter than the trip to there. Anyway, after I built it, I realized I should've painted it, but the strange thing is, is that it looks good despite a lack of a paint job. At the moment, it's lounging on a CD rack, because I put its weapons and cord in a box, so as to not lose them. I tell you, these BanDai models were high quality, and I plan on getting the whole line of units when i go back this year.

The EVA models are good. BUT watch out for some of the Gundam models.
Unless you paint them some of them really suck...

the Ground type GM comes to mind....

Nope, the packaging says Kaiyodo and says that it was sculpted by one Katsuhisa Yamaguchi.

Have you tried any of the online stores? I've done business with Hobbylink Japan, Robozone, and BigBadToyStore and fond all three reliable and accomodating. That was a year or two back now, due to less cash available for toys lately, but I don' imagine that would have changed.

Anyone know a good source for Macross models? ISTR hearing about a company that makes the Destroids in sets of two, Japanese place, but some import shops supposedly have 'em pretty cheap. Finished models are about 3-4 inches tall. Can't remember the name, though...

I know an online store that has some of these Destroids (Spartan, Defender and Tomahawk). But it is located here in Germany and their homepage is in German. Also they take awfully long to deliver, I had to wait over a month every time I ordered there. But well here is the URL: http://www.neotokyo.de/
