In similar games, like PC Building Simulator, there does seem to be such a system, and if you forget to do something, like clean out the system or give t a test boot (they somehow know) they'll leave you a bad review on the games fictional review dealie..

In a very similar vein is House Flipper, where you work renovation and general contracting but the real meat of the game is buying, renovating, and reselling houses.

I imagine that they're all made by the same developer. There's a plane repair simulator, too.

If you hadn't said that the Countach was in need of bodywork, I would have thought that somebody wanted a camouflage car.

Also, I think that Bentley couldn't be more purple unless it had "PURPLE" painted on it somewhere.

Are you sure it doesn't? It's just that you can't see it because "PURPLE" is painted in purple.

Loved the banner, really loved the bits about the DeLoreans ("been here longer than the barn", the idea of both of them being really just one that's looped back on itself, and I found myself half wishing/imagining that when you got it up to 88 on the dyno, it did vanish - leaving twin trails of fire through the shop wall), and the green 'Cuda made me think of Jade Champion's orange Piranha (later inherited and driven by her brother Groove, and I swear I'm not making these names up) from another game with fictional equivalents of all the familiar classic makes, Interstate '76. (Their version of a 70s 'Vette was the Courcheval Manta.)

Nah, it has to actually be going 88 mph with respect to the Earth's surface to time travel. That's why putting it on a train worked in BttF 3.

I couldn't quite decide from your description whether or not this would be something I'd enjoy, but I went to Steam to look at it anyway. I don't think that it's quite worth the $20... but the 2014 version is on sale now for a grand total (with sales tax) of $0.74. That's worth giving it a spin, even if I am going to inevitably end up spending an hour looking for an air filter or something because I don't know my way around car innards very well.

Honestly, my understanding is that the differences between the various version of Car Simulator is largely academic...until mods.

I have 2014 (or is it 2015?) and I enjoyed it for several hours....once I got fast unscrew. If you stick to it until you have all the 'fast' tools you'll find it can be a very relaxing and zen game.

2018 is on my "Steam Sale" list, but I have so many other games I'm trying to play it isn't on my "must buy as soon as I can" list.

I've played one of the earlier versions of Car Mechanic, though I can't for the life of me remember which one.

However, a couple of weeks ago, I went and got another game. Airplane Mechanic. Which as I understand it will let you work on British airplanes of WWII. I say "as I understand" because, well, I haven't gotten off of the Sopwith Camel, as yet. But I must say that it's a good bit of mindless fun.

There are a few pains here and there, such as that EVERY job, so far, has involved refueling, something that gets tedious by the third assignment.

There is also the issue that a lot of things "overlap" in the "reassemble" view, which can lead to you putting on the engine cover with a couple of cylinders still unattached.

And then, of course, the "you have 10 minutes to finish the job" and something completely random to fix/replace, like a cylinder gasket. Tearing down the entire engine to establish the exact cause is not a trivial task, time-wise.

Still and all, the game is in steams "pay to beta" program, so a bit of clunkiness is to be expected, and it wasn't that heniously spendy. And who knows, maybe soon I make it to a Spit or a Hurribug. Just hope I won't have to keep refueling those...it is painfully boring.

Hmm, hopefully they'll fix that. In CMS18, the reassembly mode is sequenced, so it won't let you put on, say, a cylinder head cover if all the rocker arms aren't installed. (I guess they assume that a real mechanic would just instinctively know not to do that, which, having watched real mechanics at work, is charmingly optimistic of the developers. :)

>And who knows, maybe soon I make it to a Spit or a Hurribug.

Don't be too eager to get away from those WWI engines. I've rebuilt a V12 in CMS18. Having that many cylinders is a pain in the butt. :)

The number of times I've put a computer back together in the wrong order and had to redo half of it suggests to me that this is a cross-discipline thing.

Applies to radios, too.

Applies even if you are -building them from discrete components- which is a -neat- trick with a hot soldering iron in a very confined space.

Apparently, <Almost Any Word Here> Simulator is a thing, now. Car Mechanic, Airplane Mechanic, Fishing Simulator, THIEF Simulator(there's an interesting one) and now I got offered a discount on COOKING Simulator. Yes, you too can now be the next Bobby Flay/Mario Batali/Masaharu Morimoto. Or, you know, just set the entire kitchen on fire.

Me, I think I'll pass because the interest is, in my case, nil. But I found the idea of this rather amusing, and so I thought I'd share. Incidentally, all these seem to be published by the same company too. Guess innovation was not a pre-requisite for working there.

I've seen a Let's Play of it. The player tried to end the game by putting a propane tank on a hot burner.

For some reason, this did not work as expected.

I think I watched someone stream a prerelease copy of that. If it's the game I'm thinking of, the in-game radio picked up a local radio station from, if I remember correctly, an English coastal town (I forget which one).

The streamer was in Canada.

Okay, so it was probably an online station. It was still weird to watch someone streaming a game while in the background is an advert for an independent clothes shop thousands of miles away.

In re the Thief Simulator game mentioned in that list, it is now available in the "Bad Boys" bundle on Steam...along with "Drug Dealer Simulator".

There's a game that seems to be thoroughly against all sorts of rules and agreements? On the other hand, Steam is rather well known for the "not our problem, dude, we just sell'em" mentality, so...

(shrug) If Hitman isn't turning people into assassins, Drug Dealer Simulator and Narcos probably aren't turning people into drug dealers, either.

Yeah...somehow, this one does and does not surprise me at the same time. While it isn't out yet, there is apparently a demo and a steam wishlist possibility for Tank Mechanic Simulator. Just as the Car Mechanic version, you get access to a fairly decrepit vehicle, restore it, get it all running, and then either sell it or place it in your own collection.

It's just that it's a tank. Yep, you too can now pick apart, repair, reassemble and restore large angry houses with guns.
