One word: Sw33t!!

I'd been wondering whether or not you would write one, Gryphon, but I gotta say, I am both happy and pleasently surprised by this piece. Original, and tying in with the world of _Heroes_, hoaky superhero names and all. *snicker*

The Silver Spectre is a cool character too; You don't happen to have an account with a character by that name, do you?

That is, in fact, why it's spelled "Specter" in the story - someone already had the fancier spelling.

Gryphon,

I've got a question-which server do you play on because I've got my friends who are also playing on it tell me different things about different servers and I'm trying to find the right one to play on once I get my time card (bloody paydays and them being so far between the others)

Signed,

I have characters on several. I can determine no particular difference between any given one. Virtue supposedly has a reputation in the CoH community as The Place for Roleplayers, but I've never seen anything that would particularly support that claim.

There's a fuckton of people on Virtue.

There's a fuckton of people on Freedom.

There's a lesser fuckton of people on Infinity.

There's a lot of people from LiveJournal on Pinnacle, if you're into that.

Justice, Guardian, and Liberty all seem to have very few people, compared to the Big Two up there.

I know jack shit about Victory and Protector. I'm not sure I've ever heard of anyone who plays regularly on Protector, actually.

I know so fucking little about Triumph and Champion that I *forgot to list them* and had to edit my post.

Also, that's all blue-side. There's fuck-all people on red-side in general, IME.

My main heroes are on Triumph, mostly because I picked a server at random when I started. But given the seeming lack of anyone else that don't have numbers replacing letters in their name, I'm kicking Knight and Infinity Lass over to Virtue.

I actually have a few red-siders on Virtue and Justice. I just don't really use them that often because people are up for teaming more on blue side, and playing any AT on red side solo for more than a few missions tends to get boring pretty quickly.

I've got a couple toons on Protector. It's where I go when I want to beta-test some random idea, like "what would a energy/electrical blaster play like?"

Playing it feels like playing in a ghost town, compared to Virtue (my primary server). So it's a good spot if you like soloing or want to just goof off, not so hot if you want to, y'know, play.

It ought to be noted that they're rather different fucktons. Virtue used to be the "unofficial roleplaying server", and has since rather (d?)evolved into the unofficial inexplicable-community-backlash-against-roleplayers server, but there are still a lot of roleplayers there, hanging on grimly. Of course, you'll find roleplayers anywhere - it's a roleplaying game, after all - but the set on Virtue has a particular hard core that, as with most hard cores, is difficult for normal humans to swallow. :)

Freedom, on the other hand, is the unofficial PvP server, with all that that entails. Not for nothing is it known in the player community by the affectionate(?) nickname "Freedumb".

>There's a lot of people from LiveJournal on Pinnacle, if you're into

Pinnacle has also historically been the unofficial server for playing drunk, if you're into that. :)

>I'm not sure I've ever

Heh, my very first character was (and still is) on Protector; I made him before I discovered that the people I already knew who also played the game all had their characters on Virtue. I think he's level 2, still standing where he materialized when he exited the tutorial.

Triumph is where the CSIs are!

Yeah, the villain side historically shows a markedly smaller appeal. There are a lot of potential reasons for this and they are endlessly debated. Again, you'll find the greatest concentrations on Virtue and Freedom, but they come with their own built-in drawbacks (Virtue villains are weighted toward insufferable poseurhood or willfully-dumb anti-poseur backlash; Freedom villains tend not to give a crap about anything to do with the game's storyline, they're just doing missions because you can't get XP for PvP).
