#0, Happy Birthday, a bit late...
Posted by Pasha on Nov-17-08 at 09:31 PM
Due to a discussion elsewhere, I did a bit of digging. And it looks like UF was first posted to the world via USENET on 11/14/1991. Meaning that, this past friday was it's 17th birthday.

So, happy birthday, UF. May you have many, many more. :)

Now all we need to do is find a fan who wasn't born yet when that was posted...

Sounds like it's time to borrow a blonde and go shopping, Boss.

(If the mid-life crisismobile doesn't -have- to be a convertable, the new Lancer Ralliart looks pretty hot...)

Hmm. That would make me at most a year older than you then... I served from 84 to 88ish. And I knew the second I'd heard the news about Kuwait being invaded the US was going to get it stuck in.

Hmm...

...you used the name "Creator of Alternate Universes?"

I was three years old. As I said on the Drunkard's Walk forums, probably old enough to know what "dirty" meant, maybe not "pair."

By the way, while I was digging through Google Groups again, I was highly amused to find claims that Gainax had gone out of business.

Happy birthday to UF!

Happy birthday to UF!

Happy birthday to the second greatest fanfic series in the world (and that's only because I found Christie Smith Hayden's Gargoyles series a year before and have a special attachment to it)...

Happy birthday to UF!

(You kind of have to say that third line pretty fast, but I think it fits.)

Wow. The year doesn't get me, it's the month. I remember that it took me at least a couple of weeks in A-term before I met Gryphon. I had been looking for him, just because of the name (read The Travels of Sir John Mandeville and you'll see the connection). I don't think I knew him very well when we had a fateful conversation in the Wedge where he started talking about Kei and Yuri at WPI and I started talking about the HoloDECStation.

So the three of us wrote that in under two months?!?

No wonder I was so tired...

Indeed. I think this is one of the key reasons why my version of the WPI story ends with "... and then I flunked out." :)

I might still have, somewhere, a copy of the fan letter I sent Gryph after UF (1) came out. Mostly I remember his response, which was to the effect of "yeah, it was fun. Maybe we'll do another one sometime."
