... I'm half-tempted to do the HL reboot with a blend of 2032 and 2040 character designs, a la the way I handled Battlestar Galactica in UF, largely because - and Ben Cantrick would revoke my card for this if I had one, I'm sure - my default mental image of Nene nowadays is the blonde one.

*chuckles* you had to refenece Excel's line from the dub of Episode 13. To bad Jessica Cavello could of stayed on to complete the series.

Well, I couldn't think of any other direct reference to Hilary Haag.

good point the only others I can think of in the simular vain one Episode 20 (worked better in the Japanese version for Kotono Mitsuishi), and Episode 26 ["In response to the requests of Miss Kotono Mitsuishi of Tokyo Japan, and Miss Larissa Wolcott of the United States, I am proud to present Excel Saga The Musical!!!"]

Well, speaking just for this one fan, I'd say that's an excellent idea. For whatever reason, Eyrie in general and you in particular seem to be at your best when you're starting sort of three steps to the right from what most people'd expect - NXE's the best example, but it's a long-running pattern.

I'm not sure why my instincts are telling me that a fused version'd work so much better than a 'pure' BGC piece - off either source - but, well, they're fairly definite about the matter. ^_^ Hope that helps.

Agreed.

And why do I recall SOMEONE doing a 'fic where the characters were 2032-style, but Sylia had an alternate identity where she wore a pale blue wig and all? ISTR it was another SI...

Not quite, though the plotbunny it evolved from was. Bubblegum Disaster

Was she ever anything but blond? ;-)

(I know she was a red head, I'm just one of the sick, sad people who's only seen BGM 2040 -- I should finish that series some day.)

See, this is how the rest of us can tell that you've only seen Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040. Those of us who started our anime careers with the original version phrase this statement slightly differently.

As with many things, they probably ended the show with thoughts of leaving it open for a sequel. Of course.. was it sufficiently popular FOR a sequel? And was it financially feasable at the time?

BGC, for some odd reason, has always seemed to have strange money problems.

Well, sort of. Bubblegum Crisis itself didn't end, really; it just... stopped coming out.

There was a sequel of sorts, and one that took a stab at resolving a few things, too. Trouble was, it didn't have many of the same production staffers, didn't match the original very well, and was not terribly well-received.

Ah, if you meant Crash.. yes..

..Let's not think too hard about Crash, I'd rather forget it existed...

Agreed wholeheartedly!

As for Nene, she was my favorite character from BGC. To think of her as having anything other than red hair disturbs me. However, to be honest BGC 2040 disturbs me as a whole anyway. So take my comment with a grain of salt if you will.

That's because I've only seen the 2040 series.

Well, except for the Adam Warren/Dark Horse trade I've got, but I get the feeling you probably count that as something even less that not seeing the original series. Like a negative viewing.

Grand Mal was.. not BGC.. The characters may have looked vaguely simliar, as well as some of the mechanical designs.. But it wasn't BGC.
