Hello.

You can call me WiseMan or anything similar if you'd like. I like anime, video games, cartoons, etc. My current favorite game is Radiant Silvergun and anime is Puella Magi Madoka Magica. There are other games I like a lot such as the Touhou Project and a similar series called eXceed.

I also like fanfic and have been making a cross-media project almost as big as UF, but in the form of games rather than stories. That's part of how I got to learn about Undocumented Features. Just one day, looked to see if there was some massive crossover projects in the past and it told me UF was the biggest. Hope I still can get along with everyone here though.

Currently working my way through Core and get through through to Future Imperfect/New Frontier as soon as I can. Who knows, maybe it'll get me new ideas for my game projects. Until then, just want to say for now.

If you're working your way through the Core, here's a piece of advice: The Writing Gets Better<1>, with less in-jokes (or at least, less in-jokes that readers aren't in on) and more, you know, structure. It's kinda like at some point, someone said "ok, it's cool that we're throwing in everything that we think is neat, but let's take a sec and try to figure out HOW they fit together".

Which gives us things like Tali the Greater reading an entry of The Hitchhikers Guide written by Peter Parker, Jedi Knight. Which makes me squee a little bit on the inside.

so, uhh..welcome, I guess.

Hey, I'm the one who has called my own output between (say) 1992 and 1995 "the Crap Period". If I didn't think it represented an unacceptable level of cheating, I'd have quietly removed about half of the Exile in the middle of the night by now. :)

and I, for one, thank you for not quietly stalinizing it. it would leave a big hole in the middle of things, IMO.

Now, if you happened to give them the Manhunt or Cybertron Re-reloaded treatment sometime...

Not only that, but it's nice to see the evolution, and there are some cool bits in there. Gryph taking on the Buma in On A Winter's Day springs to mind. I like the callback to K&Y complaining about how well they're built when G is dusting his palms having taken it out with a mine that he carries around a campus. :)

Everyone thanks for some of the advice for the series. I'll ask any oter future questions that I'll have here. In return, people can ask questions about me and my stuff.

First, has there been time where someone here tried thinking of developing a game or some other media besides fanfic for this series? Since it's the biggest known fanfic and a bit popular, I was wondering if there ever was.

There's a bunch of artwork all over the place (a lot of which is really quite good, some of which is better then I could do so I won't say anything worse about it) and I (years ago) tried putting together a UF GURPS PBEM(1) which, uhh...didn't work too well, because when you really think about it, it was fanfic of fanfic.

What kind of a game was it? Because though I'm new to the series, I still could see some fanfic stories as being RPGs or something.

Oh, I don't know that that's the reason - recursive fanfiction can work very well; the problem would have arisen because when you designed it the universe was very sparsely drawn indeed. I'm fairly certain that such a thing could work, and it would give all the people actually writing recursive fanfiction something else to do with their time.

Then again, what do I know?

I thought the first rule of meta-fanfic writing was "Do not talk about meta-fanfic writing"... :)

Seriously, I do remember what you speak of, although it's been a looong time...

Yeah, but if that's the first rule, then the eighth and final rule is "If this is your first night at meta-fanfic writing, you HAVE to write meta-fanfic." Not sure I want that as a defining rule in my life....

Near where Zoner, Truss, and I used to live in Waltham, there's a nondescript white building in an anonymous mixed residential/commercial neighborhood. Its only unusual feature is a sign near the side entrance that says:

FRENCH CLUB

We, too, started with the joke that the first rule of French Club is that you don't talk about French Club, and then, in due course, we arrived at, "If this is your first time at French Club, you must French."

Does the above mean that UF is now technically slash?

No. At no point did I say any of us had joined French Club.

(It turns out, by the way, that it's a civic organization, the French-American Victory Club, originally founded during WWII.)

Also, French != French KISS. Maybe it just means that you have to eat stinky cheese, smoke god awful cigarettes and drink overpriced, overrated wine, and surrender as soon as a German walks towards your table...and then complain about how horrible the rest of the world is.

In fairness, the food's good. Horse steaks are actually very pleasant, especially with a decent sauce.

Nope, you just have to take vegetables and cut them into long narrow strips.

I would suggest that you start with potatoes, which you can then cook in oil.
