#0, I know I'm not supposed to feel this way about Kei, but

(MAJOR SPOILERS)

During the Exile, Kei hounds Gryphon for decade after decade, long past the point at which it's pretty obvious to every major character who knows the both of them that Gryphon is not, in fact, the Butcher of Musashi. In the course of that pursuit, she's perfectly okay with destroying a lot of lives: much of Gryphon's Starfleet crew, etc.

Granted everyone's eventually reconciled, a new generation is born, and so forth. But I can't help feeling as a reader that, dammit, between her instant loss of faith in someone she's loved for centuries, her obsessive seeming need to hate him long after there's been at least some hint of his innocence, and the death and destruction she leaves in her wake that's probably greater than the actual Butcher's, Kei does not deserve forgiveness or love. That's just a personal reaction, of course.

I think the point you make is part of the reason Gryphon replaced "Secrets" with "Manhunt." Without the attack on Gryphon's ship and deaths of so many of his crew, it is much easier to understand Gryphon and Kei's eventual reconciliation.

P.S. Thanks to Gryphon for the audio version; it got me from Cincinnati to Buffalo without boredom.

I know, right? Eyrie Productions Audiobooks have taken me up the eastern seaboard once, and from Georgia to Texas and back again...Twice!

I gotta say, my personal favorite, from the ones I used driving, is The Iron Age audio. I do fantasize about a full-cast reading of NXE and Apotheosis Now.

That would be Badass.

Yeah, we'd never get Tommy Lee Jones and the Fresh Prince.

I dunno - Tommy Lee Jones strikes me as someone who might just do it to blow someone's mind...

Tell them it's an audiobook tie-in for charity. Then do other fundraising events on the side and pour it all into a high-interest account until it's done. Then you've got something to hand over to Gryph's MS ward and the guys get to look good!

I fully expect that, given the circumstances even with the rewrite, a few members of the old WDF took a while after that to forgive her for all that happened, presuming there aren't still a couple of holdouts, and that there might well be a few *planets* that she still can't go back to, even 20+ years after she started getting herself back together.

Hell, there's probably planets she can't go to regardless of her stability. I mean, she's one-half of the friggin' Dir...Ahm, that is, I meant to say her reputation as a...thorough and dedicated trouble consultant might precede her.
