#0, General UF and Thank you to All of the Authors & Contri
Posted by Phantom on Mar-25-11 at 11:06 PM
I have been reading UF since 1993 (introduced New Years eve 1992).
I have started Re-reading UF from the beginning.

It was very interesting re-reading everything with the filter of around 17 years. I was impressed again with the raw talent that was presented in the first stories of a universe we all have come to love.

It is amazing to see how the writing and stories have developed since UF1 & UF2 (which where I am at as of this post). The writing and characterizations have lived up to the potential.

So thank you very much for hosting this site, posting all of these stories and as a result allowing me to become part of the community.

I look forward to seeing where we go next.

Thank you and stay safe!

Thank you! Your kind words are much appreciated. You're braver than I am - I don't think I could bring myself to start at the very beginning. :)

For my part, I can hardly believe it'll be 20 years this fall since the original UF hit Usenet. Doesn't seem possible.

I know, 20 years, it is an amazing achievment and it looks like there are many more stories an years to come. All please keep up the great work!

Starting at the beginning, is an interesting experience. But one I am enjoying.

Even though I've seen you refer to the Core UF fics as your 'crap period', they're still better than anything I've ever managed. 8P

I can't recall when I first started reading EPU fics, but it's been a lotta years, and I've enjoyed them all. The early stuff was a fun read, even if they aren't up to your current (awesome) standards. Your ability to take diverse source materials and blend them together seamlessly blows me away time after time.

And the song cues have lead me to some great music too. 8)

Heh, I wasn't actually referring to the Core when I made that remark; I was thinking of the early Exile material, from around, say, 1993 to 1995. :)

Yeah, but the "worst" of UF, is still better than alot of the material out there for sell. And way better than most fanfic.

The whole of EPU Staff have really spoiled us with quality and characters that we have come to love.

Hmm. For myself, I think I first found out about UF from the Karsten's Favorite Anime Fanfics page, somewhere in the mid to late 1990s (probably around '95 to '97, IIRC) - some of the links there are dead, but you can use the titles and authors' names to google them, or find some of them in the Internet Archive, using the Wayback Machine.

I've enjoyed it pretty much the whole time since.

I found out about Eyrie and UF in about 2004 from a fanfic MSTing site, which is now defunct. And while I did like the MSTings of the Eyrie works, I also enjoyed the fics themselves.

And my interest in UF has outlived my interest in MSTings. I suppose that counts as a win for Gryph and his coauthors.

i was actually introduced to Eyrie back in '98(possibly '99, dont remember exactly >~.~<; ) by a friend who at the time said 'oh so you like X-men fanfic do you?' and promptly pointed me to EPDTMU and i loved it instantly. After saying as much to said friend he pointed me to UF saying if i liked the one story, and was a fan of numerous other genre(the Dirty Pair and robotech in particular), that i would love the UF-verse.

unfortunately it took me more than a decade to actually make it past the 1st entry(Core). i got the 1st 4 read then got sidetracked with other things.

a few months back i got reminded of UF and once i got past the Core(again) there was no turning back.

that all said i have to add my thanks to the authors and their collaborators/conspirators for one of the best reads iv had in decades.
